地震是指在地壳内释放能量所造成的震动,可由自然现象如地壳突然运动、火山活动及陨石撞击引起,亦可由人为活动如地下核试造成。

In den letzten 700 Jahren ist der US-Westküstenstaat von mehr Starkbeben erschüttert worden, als Forscher bisher angenommen hatten. Einer neuen Studie zufolge ist entlang der San-Andreas-Verwerfung nördlich von Los Angeles nach einer verhältnismäßig langen Ruhephase ein starker Erdstoß längst überfällig. Zu diesem Schluss kommen Wissenschaftler von der Universität in Irvine (Kalifornien) und Tempe (Arizona). Ihre Studie wird in der Septemberausgabe des US-Fachblatts «Geology» veröffentlicht.
