德國總理梅克爾敦促瀕臨破產的塞普勒斯進行多項改革。在訪問該國時她表示,一方面塞普勒斯要推行改革,另外一方面,歐盟必須彰顯團結。在港口城市利馬索爾,梅克爾與歐洲人民黨的代表舉行了會晤,就塞普勒斯目前的金融形勢等問題交換了意見。針對一個向塞普勒斯提供175億歐元的救助資金問題,歐元區範圍內出現了意見分歧。德國外長韋斯特韋勒強調,與塞普勒斯就援助問題談判時,該國不應期望享受「特殊條件」。
