東南亞國協已要求西方取消對緬甸的制裁。緬甸總統吳登盛在柬埔寨首都金邊舉行的東協峰會上承諾,議會補選是透明和公正的。印度尼西亞外長納塔萊加瓦(Marty Natalegawa)說,結束對緬甸的制裁將是一個強有力的訊號。 諾貝爾和平獎得主翁山蘇姬領導的反對黨全國民主聯盟在周日舉行的議會補選中贏得至少45個席位中的43個席位。歐盟委員會周一已經表示, 可以放鬆對緬甸的制裁。
