Bergama Sunağı’nın uzun yolculuğu
Bergama Sunağı Berlin’de görülmeye değer en önemli eserlerden biri. Bergama Müzesi kısmi bakım için kapanmadan önce sunağı yüzbinlerce kişi ziyaret etti. Sunak, Almanya başkentine ulaşana kadar uzun bir yolculuk yaptı.
Bergama Akropolü
Bergama Akropolü böyle görünüyordu. Sunağın M.Ö. 180-159 yılları arasında Kral II. Eumenes tarafından muhtemelen tanrı Zeus ve Athena’ya duyduğu minneti göstermek için yaptırıldı. Pergamon daha ortaçağda tüccarlar tarafından anlatılırdı. İtalyan Anconalı Cyriacus, gezi notlarında kayıp bir kentin harabelerini keşfettiğini yazmıştı.
Sunağın uzun yolculuğu
1625’te Willam Petty, koleksiyoncu kont Arundel için antik kabartmalar satın aldı ve beraberinde İngiltere’ye getirdi. Koleksiyon daha sonra kayboldu. 1962’de arkeologlar sürpriz bir keşif yaptı. Bergama Sunağı’nın tam da güney pervazına uyacak kabartmalardan biri Worksop’da bir konutun duvarında bulundu. İkinci kabartma ise kısa süre sonra Fawley’deki bir Neo-Gotik kalıntıda bulundu.
Bir amatörün keşfi
19. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında Alman mühendis ve amatör arkeolog Carl Humann, bir sahil yolu inşa etmesi için Osmanlı İmparatorluğu tarafından görevlendirildi. Humann, inşaat güzargahındaki antik yapının kalıntılarını keşfetti. Bergama’da kazı yapmaya başladı. Ve eserleri kısa süre sonra Berlin’e gönderdi.
Bergama Sunağı’nda ilk kazılar
Carl Humann, 1887’de daha kazıların başındayken yazdığı mektupta sadece kabartmalar değil, toprak altında unutulmuş büyük bir sanat eseri bulduğuyla övünmüştü. Ancak kazıların önemini ve buluntuların asıl kalitesini ilk olarak Berlin Kraliyet Müzesi Heykel Koleksiyonu Direktörü Alexander Conze fark etti.
Kazı izni
Birkaç yıl sonra II. Abdülhamid’in onayıyla yabancı arkeologların Anadolu’da kazı yapmasına ve buldukları eserlerden bazılarını ülkelerine göndermelerine izin verildi. Hatta Almanların yüklü bir miktar karşılığında Bergama Sunağı’nı toptan ülkelerine taşımalarına yeşil ışık yakıldı.
Yeniden bir araya getirildi
Yeni yüzyılın başında sunak ilk kez yeniden bir araya getirildi. 1901’den itibaren bugünkü Bergama Müzesi’nin bulunduğu yerdeki binada sergilenmeye başladı. Ancak binanın temelinde hasarlar ortaya çıkınca sunak yedi yıl sonra tekrar ziyarete kapatıldı.
Kısa bir Sovyetler Birliği yolculuğu
Bergama Sunağı yeniden ziyarete 1930’da açılabildi. Bu kez yeni inşa edilen Bergama Müzesi’nde. Lakin bu da uzun süreli olmadı. Bu antik yapıt korunmak üzere savaştan önce Berlin Hayvanat Bahçesi’ndeki bir sığınağa taşındı. Savaştan sonra Sovyetler Birliği sunağı savaş ganimeti olarak Leningrad’a (bugünkü St. Petersburg) getirdi. 1958’de sunak yeniden Berlin’e geri getirildi.
Sadece birkaç basamak
Bergama Sunağı burada duruyordu. Türkiye 1998’de sunağı geri istedi. Üç yıl sonra Türkiye’den bir talep daha geldi. Prusya Kültür Varlıkları Vakfı’na göre ise sunak ellerine yasal olarak ulaşmıştı ve iade edilmesini gerektirecek bir durum yoktu.
Sunağın yolculuğu
Sunak Ortaçağ’dan beri bir Avrupa seyahati yaptı. 2014’e kadar Berlin’deki Müzeler Adası’nda ziyaretçilerin ilgi odağı oldu. Restorasyon çalışmaları nedeniyle bir kez daha ziyarete kapatıldı. 2023’te Bergama Müzesi’yle birlikte yeniden ziyarete açılacak.
