In Manaus, the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, there is a massive industrial complex, the Zona Franca, a free trade economic zone. After years of economic success, the Zona Franca has recently seen a 40 percent decrease in production while tens of thousands of jobs have been lost lost. Some critics now even question the very existence of this special economic zone, as Sam Shramski reports.
