World in Progress : Eternal refugees in Gaza

Tim Assmann
June 7, 2017

The El Habash family live in Nusseirat, in the Gaza strip. But even though most of them were born here, they don't feel at home. Their home, they say, is Ashkelon, thats now in Israel. But its unlikely they will ever live there, on their ancestral land, where Grandfather Mohammed El Habash was born.  (Report: Tim Assman)

Mohammed el Habasch, Refugee in Nusseirat:
“I am still attached to my old home in Ashkelon. The land there belonged to our family for thousands of years. I don’t feel at home here. I never gave up the hope of being able to return one day. But this will never be possible in a peaceful way.”
