Lamu island off the northern coast of Kenya is a UNESCO world heritage site and used to be one of Kenya's foremost tourist attractions. But its also not far Somalia and the ongoing conflict across the border. Tourists stopped coming to Lamu island after several terrorist attacks in the region. That poses big problems for the local economy, and it could also threaten the heritage site itself.
