World in Progress: Amnesty reports surge in executions
Anne Sophie Brändlin/ Sarah Steffen April 6, 2016
According to a new report by Amnesty International, there has been a 50 percent surge in the number of executions worldwide in 2015. More than 1.634 executions were officially recorded, the highest number in 25 years. Real figures are probably much higher, as China is keeping the number of executions secret. The huge surge is mainly due to Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
