China says the US pushed the situation in Gaza ‘into more dangerous territory’ by vetoing a draft UN resolution on a Gaza cease-fire. But it's more than just altruism that’s motivating this criticism. China is looking to position itself as a leader of the so-called Global South and push its interests in the Middle East.
