When daughters are raised as sons in Pakistan

Mudassar Shah, Pakistan, presented by Neil KingOctober 21, 2015

There's a tradition among the Pashtun people that when a couple without a son gives birth to a daughter, they simply dress their daughter as the son they wish they had. This cross-dressing culture means girls enjoy all the freedom boys have in society – from going to school to playing sports. It's no wonder that many refuse to suddenly become a woman as a teenager when it's time to marry them off.
