The exit from coal mining is inevitable if we want to have a clean and livable future here on Planet Earth, that much is clear. But what happens to regions that depend on coal, like West Virginia in the United States?

The Biden administration wants to phase out coal which for some living in the polluted regions can’t come quick enough. But others are concerned about losing jobs in the region. So, how is a coal producing state like West Virginia that has mined coal for over 100 years, going to deal with a future without coal? What could replace this dying industry? Julia Kastein went to find out in this in-depth feature, presented by Kathleen Schuster.
