Vonn wins to close in on World Cup record

Lindsey Vonn notched up her 61st World Cup win with success in the women's downhill at Val d'Isere on Saturday. The four-time overall World Cup champion took her latest race in a time of 1min 44.47 sec to edge Germany's Viktoria Rebensburg and Austria's Elisabeth Goergl.
The American finally looks to have put an injury-ridden two years behind her and with this win, her second of the season after her downhill victory earlier this month at Lake Louise, Vonn is closing in on her best form since a high speed crash in early 2013.
"I trusted my body and my knee held up great," said Vonn afterwards. "No problem, no pain, so all is good."
"I knew that I could win here. It was for others to realise that I'm back to where I was," said Vonn afterwards. "It's incredible, I was a little nervous today because I'd been making some mistakes in training."
It put the girlfriend of 14-time golf major champion Tiger Woods just one win behind the all-time World Cup record of 62 held by Austria's Annemarie Moser-Proell - a record she can level in Sunday's super-G.
Slovenia's Tina Maze, current overall World Cup leader had to settle for fourth, while defending overall World Cup champion Anna Fenninger of Austria finished 11th.
