US-China Spat Over Arms Sale to Taiwan Deepens

02/02/10February 2, 2010

China has once again expressed anger over the US arms sales to Taiwan, which it considers a breakaway province. Speaking at a news conference, foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said the sale would inevitably affect China-US cooperation on international and regional issues.

Ma also called on the American companies selling arms to Taiwan to back away from the deal.

Earlier Beijing warned that it could impose sanctions against firms such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon which are involved in the deal.

The Obama administration approved the 6.4 billion dollar arms package for Taiwan last Friday.
