Uruguay racism

Eight percent of Uruguayans are of African descent. They have higher dropout rates, higher unemployment rates and a lower life expectancy than the general population. New affirmative action legislation, which will go into effect in late December, aims to change those statistics by enacting policies to help Afro-Uruguayans stay in school and by reserving eight percent of government jobs for them.
