Irish rockers U2 will perform a free concert at the Brandenburg Gate, the former symbol of Germany's division, to mark the two-decade anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The concert is to be held on November 5 as part of the MTV Europe Music Awards, which will take place in Berlin's O2 World Arena.

"It will be an exciting spot to be in, 20 years almost to the day since the wall came down. Should be fun," said the band's manager, Paul McGuinness, on the band's website.

The actual anniversary of the fall of the Wall is November 9.

The phenomenally successful band has a connection to the German capital, since members relocated there in 1990 just after the Wall fell to come up with a new sound, which was revealed on the album "Achtung Baby" in 1991.

U2 recorded that album at the Hansa Studios, close to where the Wall once stood.

Tickets for the show are available as of Wednesday through the band's website, www.u2.com, or through www.mtvema.com.
