Welcome back: debate over the salaries, bonuses and golden handshakes paid to business executives has been raging here in Germany for some time now. The tax evasion scandal surrounding Deutsche Post CEO Klaus Zumwinkel that broke last Thursday has added fuel to the fire: politicians have joined commentators in questioning the moral fibre of managers and suggesting that their lack of ethics is threatening the fabric of society: if billionaires pocket what, in effect, belongs to their fellow citizens, then how are they to persuade normal workers that the taxes they pay are justified.
