TT Elections in Bavaria: CSU loses absolute majority (29.09.2008) je 10

Michael BärSeptember 29, 2008

Let's get a look now at how the seats are divided up in parliament. This is where we get a good sense of the damage inflicted on the CSU: the CSU has 92 seats, that's two short of the absolute majority it has enjoyed in the state since 1962. The Social Democrats get 39, the Freie Wähler or Free Voters 21, the Greens 19 seats and the pro-business Free Democrats 16 seats. So the CSU can pick and choose its coalition partner. +++LMRAUS+++ But the fact that it needs a partner at all is a bitter disappointment for the CSU's leadership and supporters. The party's rank and file expect consequences and there have already been calls for the party's top brass to resign.
