Tick bites and how to treat them

May 2, 2013

Ticks can transmit diseases, so if you’re bitten by a tick you should remove it promptly. To remove a tick, use pointed tweezers to grasp its head and pull gently until it releases the skin.

Avoid squeezing the tick’s body, because that increases the chances that disease-causing bacteria will enter the bloodstream. Keep a close eye on the skin around the bite, and if a rash or other symptoms develop, see your doctor.
