Thomas Schaaf has been at Werder Bremen for almost 40 years, and he’s been their head coach for the last 12. Voted Coach of the Year in 2004, Schaaf’s teams have been known for their no-holds-barred attacking football, and that’s made Bremen a team fans from all over Germany love to support.

But in 2010-2011, Werder faltered and had to struggle to avoid relegation. Suddenly, people were broaching the previously unthinkably idea that Schaaf was perhaps past his sell-by date. We talk with the Bundesliga’s longest-serving coach about his future prospects and where the German game is headed.
