Short Biography

The daughter of a Canadian diplomat and a German mother, Ariane de Hoog has been a citizen of the world since early childhood. She was born in 1978 in Nairobi, Kenya, but has since lived in the Canadian capital, Ottawa, and in the German cities of Bonn and Berlin. After attending school in Germany, she studied politics in Ottawa and then gained her doctorate at Britain’s renowned Cambridge University. Since 2009, Ariane de Hoog has been the face of DW’s news programme, first as a business anchor and then as a news presenter. When she’s not at work, she enjoys playing the violin, dancing and knocking a puck around in a game of ice hockey. Since moving to Berlin, the multi-faceted presenter likes to regularly visit concerts, a tradition she's inherited from her mother's side of the family.
