Attack kills Afghan governor
August 30, 2013Police spokesman Sayed Sarwar Hussaini said a suicide bomber attacked a group of people leaving a memorial service Friday in Kunduz province's Dashi Archi district, killing the district governor Sayed Sadruddin and several others.
"The district governor who was the target, died on the spot," Hossaini said.
Several other people were also killed, including the governors' bodyguard and at least 8 civilians, police said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
In the past week, Taliban insurgents have launched several attacks, which have killed more than 30 people and left dozens injured. Insurgents are seeking to weaken the
government ahead of April elections and the withdrawal of most international troops by the end of 2014.
