Sudeshna from India

December 3, 2012

A DW table clock was a wedding present from her husband and the start of a wonderful passion that Sudeshna shares with him to this day.

Name: Sudeshna
Country: India
Year of birth: 1981
Occupation: Housewife

I use DW because: I live in a remote village in West Bengal, India. I got married in 1999. I passed the Higher Secondary Examination in science. Living in a metropolis like Bonn or Berlin, you can never imagine such a village, where modern amenities are totally absent.

Radio, yes radio is still the only way to know about the world. Besides Bengali broadcasts, I have become accustomed to DW’s English and Hindi broadcasts. Today I see My DW as the true voice of Germany – no, the voice of the whole world. I firmly believe My DW speaks to our world of peace and love with the spirit of "introducing Germany to the world and introducing the world to Germany."

Topics that interest me: I initially listened to DW’s traditional shortwave broadcasts in English, Bengali and Hindi every day to learn more about Germany and the world. Now I like My DW the most because it helps me to stay connected with DW, like a drug addict without any side effects, and my husband helps me know more about the site.

What I especially like about DW: I visit DW’s multi-language website whenever I go to town with my husband and other relatives. I discover the charming beauties of Germany by clicking on DW Online and seeing what is going on in the world that DW thoroughly covers.

My first experience with DW: Oh, listen! It's the story of a plain housewife 12 years ago! The very first night of marriage, the newlywed bride looks dreamily at her husband with her wistful eyes. The husband switches on a blue night lamp and tells her, “Give me your hands; now close your eyes.” The new bride stretches out her hands. Husband: “Now open your eyes.” Wife: “Oh, God! A DW table clock! What a gift!”

I remained silent and thought I got married for the sake of love; moreover, he is unemployed. What more can he do? So I admired the DW table clock, embracing it to my chest. But my husband smiled and told me: “Oh, my darling, this is not just a table clock! It’s a gift from my heart, the heart of a country. Today I give you a treasure from an ancient country. It is Germany.”

The second night of our wedding, the clock struck nine. My cup of tea slipped “What’s that?” I said. My husband’s name was on the radio. A presenter read a letter announcing my husband’s name, and a smile appeared in my husband's mustache. I asked, “What is that radio station?” He finished his cup of tea and lovingly replied: “DW - my first love.” I asked: “Then who am I?” My husband replied: “My second love. If you want me, make friends with your rival wife. Dear, you are my life, DW my charm. Come, darling, and let’s share the joy of the world with DW.” In this dramatic way I was introduced to DW. My love for DW has lasted since then.

My wish for the future: Please wish me luck so that I will be a winner. It is my wish that DW will go on forever and keep improving. My sincere greetings to all the staff of DW.
