Police have confirmed blasts at the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott hotels in Jakarta, but are not yet able to say if the explosions were as a result of bombs.

Witnesses say the blasts, which occurred on Friday morning, went off within minutes of each other.

Police say nine people have been killed and at least 42 injured.

In 2003, Southeast Asian terrorist network Jemaah Islamiyah was believed to have been behind an attack on the Marriott hotel, when 12 people died.
