Russian human rights group 'Memorial' is honoured with the Sakharov Prize

The European Parliament has awarded its top human rights prize to Memorial, a Russian group which campaigns against abuses of power. Announcing the award of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought - Parliament President Jerzy Buzek said the assembly hoped "to contribute to ending the cycle of violence surrounding human rights defenders in the Russian Federation". +++MAZ+++
