Rubens Painting Tracked down to Moscow

A painting by Peter Paul Rubens, which disappeared from Rheinsberg Castle near Berlin in 1945, has apparently been located. A spokesman for the Potsdam public prosecution, which announced that preliminary proceedings launched in April 2003 against a number of Swiss and Russian nationals on charges of receiving stolen goods, has revealed that the original painting is most likely in Moscow. Russian authorities have been requested to confiscate the painting. The Berlin-Brandenburg Foundation for Prussian Castles and Gardens filed charges after Swiss agents put the painting up for sale. The estimated value of the painting "Tarquinius und Lucretia" is believed to be some €80 Million.
