An Israeli raid on the Jenin city and refugee camp started last night and remains ongoing, said Hazem Balousha, a Palestinian journalist and regular DW contributor.
Speaking to DW on Wednesday from Amman, Balousha said that reports from the camp in the occupied West Bank suggested Israeli military vehicles were surrounding the main Jenin hospital and disrupting ambulance traffic.
He cited earlier reports of three injuries.
Balousha also said Palestinian militants and Israeli troops were exchanging fire.
"It's not a new thing," Balousha said. "We can say that this week, this is the third time at least that Israeli troops entered Jenin. And across the year, [they entered] many times and one of them they spent some days there."
Christos Christou, the president of Doctors without Borders (MSF) international, said on social media late Tuesday that he was "trapped" in a hospital in Jenin city while Israeli forces "operate in Jenin camp."
The Palestinian Authority (PA) administers parts of the West Bank in cooperation with Israel. However, the region has several militant Islamist strongholds, including Jenin.
