There have been apocalyptic scenes from Kyiv, but is Ukraine on the brink of civil war? The clashes between protestors and police in the center of Kyiv have left dozens dead and transformed the Maidan, or Independence Square, into a blackened, smouldering wasteland strewn with rubble, burnt out vehicles and barricades.
