Quadriga # Unrest in Iran - The End of Ahmadinejad's Presidency? # 26.06.2009

Constanze TressJune 27, 2009

The Iranian government is using all means at its disposal to suppress opposition demonstrations. Protest marches are being broken up with increasing violence. The death of a young student, Neda, has now given the opposition's struggle a face. She was shot and bled to death at a demonstration and has become a martyr. Many other protestors have also been killed and hundreds of others have been beaten and jailed. The regime in Tehran blames foreigners for escalating the standoff. Journalists from abroad are being expelled from the country. The world is not supposed to see the drama unfolding daily on the streets of Iran's cities.
