Protests in Tibet: situation in Lhasa remains tense, Dalai Lama calls for international investigation - je 16.03.2008 12

Reports are coming in of fresh protests in Monastry towns in Western China. The situation in Lhasa remains tense. Little Information is seeping through, with eye-witness reports saying that Chinese officials are going from house to house. Tibet's government-in-exile says at least 80 people have been killed in anti-Chinese riots in Tibet on Friday; while China's official news agency has put the number of dead at ten. meanwhile the Tibetan Spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has accused Beijing of committing - what he referred to as "cultural genocide" against the Tibetan people, calling for an investigation.
