As we've seen, Joachim Gauck has been voted into what is officially Germany's highest office. The 72-year-old, who is a former Lutheran pastor from Eastern Germany, is known for his fiery speeches and strong political opinions. He's very popular here in Germany -- not least because of his role in the peaceful protest movement that toppled East Germany's communist regime.
