Pope Benedict's Middle East pilgrimage: Nazareth

Constanze TressMay 15, 2009

Pope Benedict has been completing his Middle East pilgrimage today with prayers at one of Christianity's holiest sites. In the past hour, the pope visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem -- the site where Christians believe Jesus died and was resurrected. In the church he knelt down and kissed the stone on which Jesus's body is said to have been placed after the crucifiction. In Nazareth on Thursday - Benedict held an inter-faith meeting with Muslims and Jews - and discussed the possibility of reviving Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts with Israel's new Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
