Poisonous survival: sulfur mining

Ijen volcano vents huge amounts of hydrogen sulfide gas. The high temperature gas oxidises on contact with the air. It's piped to the floor of the crater where it condenses as sulfur. The men who break up and collect the deposits are frequently enveloped in toxic fumes and often lose consciousness.
