New vs. old media

Bloggers and traditional journalists have quarreled for years over the importance of Weblogs in the media landscape. Planet Blog looks at the ongoing debate between old and new media.

From their inception blogs have been seen by many in the mainstream media as a threat to the future of credible journalism. The heads of newspapers, magazines, radio stations and television channels have all accused bloggers of being loose cannons who leech off the work of others and don't have the expertise to know what they're talking about.

Bloggers, on the other hand, accuse major media organizations of ignoring their audiences, misrepresenting the facts and focusing too much on turning a profit.

Laura Pintos, this week's guest on Planet Blog, is a staunch supporter of the bloggers' point of view. Titled 233grados.com, her Weblog's name plays on the temperature needed to set paper on fire.
