Pirate fishing threatens the living of fishermen and fish populations

Illegal fishing has become an increasingly destructive force in recent years. Often known as pirate fishing, it decimates fish populations and siphons wealth from some of the poorest countries in the world, taking food from people living along the coasts. Former conflict nations like Sierra Leone are particularly vulnerable to it, and governments have only recently begun waking up to the problem.
