On Wednesday this week, the Bulgarian government resigned after days of violent protests against rising energy costs and economic decline. Prime Minister Boiko Borisov had swept to power back in 2009, pledging to raise living standards and root out corruption. Helen Seeney spoke to Alexander Andreev, head of DW's Bulgarian Service. Was he surprised by the size and intensity of these protests?
