Thirty-year-old Julia Hummer might be a self-taught musician and actress, but the critics say she has great talent in both disciplines.

As an actress, Julia Hummer has become famous for playing outsiders in conflict with society - an experience she knows only too well. Born in Hagen in Westphalia in 1980, Julia Hummer went to 10 different schools after her parents divorced, sometimes living in childrens' homes. She left school during her 11th Grade after an unsuccessful love affair. Since her coincidental discovery in the street and her debut in the 1999 film "Absolute Giganten,“ the autodidact has been treated like a great talent. After received the Golden Kamera award for best newcomer for her role in director Christian Petzold's 2000 film "Die innere Sicherheit," she quickly established herself as one of the big names in the German film business. In 2005, she switched her attention to music, and there too, her mixture of folk and rock has been well-received by the critics.
