Talking Germany Presenter Peter Craven talks to Anna Loos about her heroes, her roots and Germany's struggling theaters.

Anna Loos is one of the best known actresses in Germany. She's also a successful singer, having joined the legendary east German rock band "Silly".

Anna Loos was born in 1970, in Brandenburg on the Havel - then a part of Communist East Germany. Right from early on, she was determined to be a singer and took private lessons. At the age of 17, her familywas allowed to leave for West Germany. In 1992 she began training at the Stage School of Music, Dance and Drama in Hamburg. Roles in theater and television followed. Her breakthrough on the silver screen came in 2000, with a major role in the German horror movie "Anatomy". In 2004, she appeared in a stage production of the musical "Cabaret" in Berlin, playing the role of Sally Bowles to wide acclaim. In 2006, she appeared as a guest singer in the rock band Silly, fulfilling a lifelong dream. The band is now celebrating a comeback with Anna Loos. She is the new lead singer of the band, replacing Tamara Danz who died in 1996. Anna Loos has been married to actor Jan Josef Liefers since 2004. The couple have two children and live in Berlin.
