Opel: German government wants detailled takeover plans by Magna and Fiat

Racing against the clock. The future of General Motors could be decided in less than two weeks when the US automaker is due to present its survival plan to Washington by June first.. GM's European unit Opel is not waiting to find out what the Ameicans plan to do. Opel is up for sale. The Italian carmaker Fiat and the auto parts maker Magna are both vying for Opel. On Tuesday, the German government, which will help finance any deal here, told both Fiat and Magna to come back next week with a better plan on how to save Opel.
