Mining and direct investment in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone, was once infamous for its civil war and ‘blood diamonds'. Today the country is seeing a boom in foreign direct investment. If managed well, revenues generated from the booming mining sector could transform this small West African coastal nation. The question is whether diamonds, as well as large deposits of gold, bauxite and iron ore can be mined sustainably.
