Germany’s new maximum security terrorist court near Düsseldorf will begin hearing the first terrorist trial this week. Four suspected members of the Islamic group al-Tawhid will be put on trial at the new €37 million court. The decision to build a special high-security court was made shortly after the terrorist attacks in the U.S. on September 11, 2001 and was completed within 12 months. It was built on the outskirts of Düsseldorf with bomb-proof concrete, bullet-proof glass, barbed wire and metal detectors and even features a heli-pad to airlift in high profile criminals deemed a threat to national security.
