Wheat is one of the key staples with fast growing demand in Africa. The increase in consumption is driven by income growth, urbanisation and dietary changes. But, sub-Saharan countries - and Africa as a whole - only produce about forty percent of their own domestic requirements. But, researchers at Mexico's International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center [CIMMYT] have come up with a solution.
