Donetsk, which has about a million inhabitants, used to be known for its industry and international football club. Today, it's a separatist stronghold subject to constant shelling by Ukrainian forces. Parts of the city are hit so frequently that people have left their houses and live in bomb shelters on an ongoing basis.
