The fight for the Syrian town of Kobani, which Kurdish residents have been defending against Islamic State militants, has once more focussed attention on the Kurds. Last weekend a global day of solidarity with Kobani brought Kurdish demonstrators onto the streets of European cities. They were campaigning for more humanitarian and military aid in Syria and Iraq.
