Berlin has been stepping up efforts to stop the wave of asylum seekers from the Balkans lately. They used to make up about a third of all asylum seekers. Around 27,000 people from the Balkans have left Germany voluntarily this year alone. About 11,000 have been deported by force. Many of them are Roma.
