For months, Turkish security forces have been engaged in bloody fighting against the Kurdish separatist group the PKK, in the southeast of the country. The ensuing fighting has caused massive destruction, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes. Now the government has passed a controversial law enabling it to expropriate many properties as part of a rebuilding programme.
