By taking the name of the radical, poverty-loving saint, Cardinal Bergoglio has brought a bit of Saint Francis of Assisi to the Vatican. Pope Francis has, in his first days, spurned papal cars and ceremonial clothes, protocol and majesty. But have the new links to the Vatican changed things in Assisi? John Laurenson took a trip to the town where the saint was born and died.
