Human Rights Watch calls on China to abolish secretive "black jails" used to hold aggrieved citizens

Karlotta BahnsenNovember 12, 2009

The US based group Human Rights Watch has called on China to end its practice of illegally detaining citizens who petition the government with their grievances. A new report by the group is based on interviews with 38 people who said they were incarcerated in secret detention centres after trying to present complaints through official channels. The report comes just days before US president Barack Obama is due to visit China.
