Visitors can go for a dip in the Grosser Alpsee in Immenstadt or take a trip across the water in a historic merchant vessel against a picturesque mountainous backdrop. They can also go tobogganing on the 3-kilometer-long Alpsee Coaster - even during the summer.

Bad Hindelang in the Allgäu region isn't just a spa resort for taking in healthy alpine air. It is also a good place to begin a visit to the nature conservation area in the Oberalp area of the Allgäu region. Guided walks offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy brilliant views and learn about golden eagles.

Oberstdorf is a central tourist town in the region. Germany's southernmost community attracts more than just mountain climbers heading for the Hindelanger via ferrata, a secured climbing route. When visibility is good, people who opt to take the cable car to the summit of the 2,224-meter (nearly 7,300-foot) Nebelhorn can join them in enjoying the panoramic view over 400 mountain peaks.

Mathies is a mountain guide in Allgäu, and knows the region like the back of his hand. Join him on a tour of his favorite spots, including the Hinanger Waterfall, the Sturmanns Cave and the Mittelalpe.
