German self-driving car project underway in Berlin

This is no ordinary steering wheel -- developed by German researchers, it's connected to a computer system which can detect -- and avoid -- objects on the road, like wheelchair riders. The so called self-driving car could be a way for older drivers to stay behind the wheel safely. Germany's minister of education and research has backed the project with grants.
