Friend or foe? The NATO is searching for its strategy for the future

NATO defense ministers have been meeting in Istanbul, with the situation in Afghanistan topping the agenda. The alliance plans to add almost 40,000 soldiers to its 85,000-strong International Security Assistance Force over the course of the year, and wants to beef up training measures for local police and Afghan army troops. But the Central Asian nation isn't the only topic on the agenda. Budget issues, Iran's overtures or leack thereof and the persistent threat from Al Quaeda also need attending to.
